Plot
Letters from Iwo Jima tells the story about the American invasion of the Japanese island from a point of view of the Japanese soldiers and commanders. First, there's Saigo, a baker, who accepts reluctantly to go to war. Also General Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe) who has recently been given command of the defense force stated on Iwo Jima, and introduces some changes in the regular discipline of the Japanese Army. The mood of the troops is of constant expectation of an inevitable attack. When the attack finally starts we get to know the emotions which affect Saigo, General Kuriabayashi, and many more soldiers while ordered to defend the island giving their lives in the attempt.
